That’s either a very symmetrically placed piece of dust… OR….
OMG THE iPAD HAS A CAMERA!
OK, I won’t say the iPad is going to ship with a camera, or even that that is what we are seeing here in Apple’s iPad ad, but as faithful Macenstein reader Mike points out, that does kinda sorta look like the spot a camera WOULD go, if the iPad DID have a camera.
So, did they use a prototype for the commercial? Or is it simply a well-placed, (beveled) piece of dust? Is it the guy who hangs himself in the background of the Wizard of OZ? Why are we looking frame by frame at a commercial?
I don’t know, but it seems to only appear on that 1 iPad in the ad (about 4 seconds in). Weird.
Ambient light sensor, perhaps?
The iPad with an embedded camera is only going to be given out to high school students. sheesh, don’t you read the news??? 😉
Puts on tin foil hat… Amazon product description for the book pictured “Deeper Than The Dead” says it is set in 1984 and is about the “See No Evil Killer”. I Want To Believe.

Could be the light sensor for adjusting the screen brightness. The iPhone has three such “spots” behind the display left to the speaker.
Or it’s just the thingamajig that triggers the whoknowswhat resulting in major getaloadofthat!
Ambient light sensor anyone?
It’s clearly the reality distortion field generator.
I believe its the ‘HOME’ button, as the person is holding the unit upside down – cant see clearly because of playback controls
The blurred text under the spot actually says “sees all”
Hum, can’t tell. It doesn’t help that the iPhone sensors are the same size as the iSight camera built into Macs.
However if it’s just one dot then it might only be be sensor.
I agree. Its upside down.
No camera check out the tech specs at http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
