Speaking of China…

Well, someone was probably speaking of China. Yes, my newly ordered MacBook has left China, and apparently has made it to the West Coast. With each feverish pressing of the “re-load” button on the FedEx tracking page, I have gradually become less and less worried about the possibility it will arrive with graphics problems, and am now just plain old excited about the... Read More

“Check out DockAppsMenu, because Stacks suck”

Stacks is an interesting yet baffling new feature of the new Leopard. Basically, using Stacks you can quickly display the top 13 or so files (listed alphabetically) in a folder in either a hard-to-read fan-like sweep, or as a giant hard-to-read grid (again, only displaying as many icons as will fit). This is great for small folders of incredibly organized content, but lame if you... Read More

Bring Leopard back to the 1700’s with a Wooden Dock

The Leopard beta has been out so long that many people were sick of the new 3D dock before they even got a chance to use it. Well, luckily there are no shortages of Dock hacks floating around to let you spice up the bottom (or side, if you’re into that) of your screen. These latest two don’t get rid of Leopard’s 3D-ness, but they are sure to provide seconds of... Read More

20 Mbps, baby!

We just got FiOS. Hooray for us. So far, it seems to be a big step up from our old DSL connection. In fact, my DSL now reminds me of my blazing fast 1.5 KB/second dial up connection of 1997. So far, it works great with Airport, and took all of 20 seconds to switch the base station over. It also has a 5Mbps/s upload speed, which is pretty darn sweet too. One thing I DID have to... Read More

“Orange” you glad they didn’t say “banana”?

iPod Touch – to buy or not to buy?

Faithful Macenstein reader Dan writes us: iPod Touch – to buy or not to buy? That is the question. A quick sidenote of appreciation: In the last two weeks Macenstein has gone from virtually unknown to me, to the second (of about 30) sites I check on arriving at the office (but don’t tell my manager). My new apartment is still without connectivity, so I look forward to... Read More

See? 1.1.1 ain’t so tough! TUAW is reporting that iPhone hacker asap18 has managed to get quite a few apps to run on the infamous new firmware, with more to come. It appears for the moment that only 15 apps can be displayed on the home screen under the new firmware, but we’re betting by the end of next week the geek squad will have fill multiple home screen support... Read More

3 accessories that can squeeze some extra life from a “dead” iPod

Sadly, as with all electronic gadgets, there will come a day when your iPod will eventually die. I know, I know, we don’t like to think of such things, but death is an unavoidable side effect of life. However, much like cutting off your deceased grandfather’s head and freezing it, there ARE ways to extend the life of your “dead” iPod, and most cost far less... Read More
