Review: Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone
I have a tendency to be a bit long-winded in my reviews, so I am rather excited to be reviewing the Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone, an accessory so simple, even I can’t go on too long (I think). The Juice Pack is essentially an extra battery pack for your iPhone which promises to drastically extend the amount of use you can get between charges, and in our tests, it delivered. Mophie claims the juice pack can add up to 250 of standby time, 8 hours of talk time, 24 hours of... Read More
Apple legal shuts down iPhone clone sellers – is Psystar next?
Redferret reports that Apple’s legal team has been shutting down UK distributors who have been selling Chinese iPhone clones, the most recent of which is the company Digital Playworld. DP’s managing director Simon Rimmer claims Apple “came at me all guns blazing, big bully boy tactics” . Above: video of China’s C-002 HiPhone. Gee, I don’t see what infringement Apple was complaining about… that phone clearly has a removable battery!... Read More
Sign up for TheBlackApp – Why? Because SPACE IS LIMITED! That’s why!
Do you own an iPhone? Do you like to sign up for mysterious things without knowing why? Then head over to TheBlackApp. But hurry! Space is limited!!!! Above: OMG! SPACE IS LIMITED!!! Faithful Macenstein reader David sent us a link to the cryptic homepage of what appears to be perhaps a combination of Sam’s Club and American Express for the iPhone called “TheBlackApp”. Details are very scarce on the site, in fact all we know (aside from that the site’s... Read More
Review: Toast 9 – Video Streamer, Audio Recorder, Video compressor… oh, and it still burns stuff too
Few apps have excited me personally the way the latest version of Roxio’s Toast has been able to. I’ll admit that my situation may be somewhat unique, but for those of you who have committed to the digital video lifestyle, as have I, Toast 9 is a must-have tool. First, to let you know where I am coming from, I am a huge fan of watching video on the iPod/iPhone and MacBook. I watch a great deal of my “TV” by ripping DVDs of TV shows using HandBrake and... Even more rumors: The new iPhones’ specs
Notice the placement of the apostrophe in that title. Faithful Macenstein tipster Doug writes in yet again with insight into 3 upcoming iPhone models allegedly set to be released. Just as the iPod lineup developed and branched out, so does Apple have plans for the iPhone lineup. Here’s some of what is being considered: A “Pro” or “Max” model, that is noticeably thicker than current model (over 15mm, versus 11.6mm for existing iPhone), to incorporate... Read More
Review: Scandyna MicroPod SE speakers and dock for iPod
In looking over my recent speaker reviews, I’ve noticed that I have given out quite a few 8 and 9 out of 10 ratings… well, prepare yourself for yet another. It seems as though speaker technology has gotten so good in recent years that it’s almost impossible to make a bad-sounding iPod speaker for $200. Yet as good as the competition has gotten, the $199 Micropod SE’s by Scandyna have upped the ante, and actually sound as good as some $400 speakers we’ve... Read More
WTF? – “BRICKED_AND_SIM_LOCKED_STRING†found in iPhone v2.0 firmware
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/BRICKED_AND_SIM_LOCKED_STRING_found_in_iPhone_firmware; The Greek technology site iPhone Hellas has been poking around in the iPhone 2 beta firmware and found all sorts of GPS-related goodies, as well as some more YouTube and Google integration, but the really interesting thing (to me anyway) is that they have also found the following string buried deep in the code: “BRICKED_AND_SIM_LOCKED_STRINGâ€. WTF? OK, I understand Apple... Read More
Review: Griffin’s SmartTalk HeadPhone Adapter for iPhone
Replacing the headset on an iPhone is a little trickier than on an iPod. While an iPod will accept any headset you may be partial to, the iPhone’s recessed jack and microphone/remote limit replacement choices. While more and more companies are beginning to offer replacement iPhone headsets, in general these are high-quality (and high cost) models. Spending $100-$300 on headphones that will only fit in an iPhone is not something most people are looking forward to doing.... Read More
Florida woman’s iPhone catches her killer
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/Flordia_Woman_s_iPhone_Catches_Her_killer; When the body of 39 year-old lawyer Melissa Lewis was pulled from a canal off State Road 84, police had little information to go on. All signs pointed to her murder being a random act of violence, however thanks to her killer’s inability to resist her stolen iPhone, police were able to track and capture Tony Villegas, the ex-husband of Lewis’ best friend Debra Villegas whom she’d... When product placement attacks!
There’s an Apple in the House! Or two, or three… hard to tell. I’ve heard nothing but good things about FOX’s House, yet for some reason I’ve never felt compelled to put forth the effort of adding it to my DVR’s schedule. However, according to faithful Macenstein reader Phil, apparently I should, as it is pretty much a commercial for Apple’s computers and gear, with episode 10 of season 4 being particularly Apple-whoreish. WHATS UP... Read More
