Review: XtremeMac’s Sportwrap for iPhone/iPod
Above: Know what that is? That’s some top-notch stitchin’, that’s what that is! Now that the weather is warming up, I have decided to (reluctantly) put down the cheeseballs, and start exercising again. I haven’t really been running since last November and a lot has changed since then. First of all, I am ridiculously out of shape. But more importantly, and relevant to this article, is the fact that I have become so reliant on my iPhone over the past few... Read More
iPhone makes cameo in new Sex and the City trailer
Faithful Macenstein reader Tony R. alerts us that the iPhone is set to make yet another Hollywood cameo, this time in the theatrical adaptation of the Sex and the City TV show, slated to come out later this year. “So, i was just watchin the new Sex and the City trailer and low and behold there, in Samantha’s hand was an Iphone. it’s in 2 shots (that i could see) in the trailer.” It’s kind of sad, really. No, not sad that Tony watched the Sex and... Read More
Crap! If anyone buys this thing, we’ll all have to give back our $100 iPhone credits!
Remember last year when all us “early iPhone adopters” got together and cried poverty, shaking down Apple for a cool $100 rebate? Well, Austrian jeweler Peter Aloisson is about to blow the whole deal! If his $176,400, 17.75 carat iPhone sells, Apple has every right to come knocking on our doors demanding back that credit with interest! Actually, word on the street is that Peter actually has already sold at least one of these to a nut job in Russia who pre-ordered... Read More
Will Karl Rove’s iPhone kill us all?
President Bush’s former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove was recently interviewed by NewsBusters on a number of topics. Two interesting revelations made during the course of the interview (at least as far as Macenstein‘s readers are concerned) are that not only does Rove own an iPhone, but he also has a MacBook Air, which his wife covets. While we’re all for any influential politician touting Apple gear, Rove’s iPhone quote is a bit ominous… “... Read More
QuickTime VR (sort of ) finally comes to the iPhone
I’ve lamented about the iPhone’s lack of QTVR support for some time now, and it looks like at least one other person, Marco Giorgini, also thought the omission was odd. Luckily for the rest of us, while all I could do was bitch and moan, Marco was actually smart enough to fix the problem. Marco’s CubeWorld is an app that brings most of the missing QTVR functionality to the iPhone (and the iPod touch… I gotta keep remembering that thing). Basically CubeWorld... Read More
iPods and iPhones that can heal themselves… We’re one step closer to the robot uprising
We’ve all seen it in movies a thousand times… A snail-loving scientist wonders if there is a way to bond protein to various elements in the periodic table and grow new materials, one thing leads to another, and then BAM! Skynet becomes self aware on August 29th 1997 2:14 am Eastern Time. Well, if the trade-off for our eventual enslavement by robots is an iPod that can heal itself of scratches, then I for one would like to welcome our new robot overlords. According... Read More
Things that make you go “Duh!” – The iPhone’s Maps icon
I was looking at the iPhone this morning, and started wondering about the Maps icon. Since there is a reason behind pretty much everything Apple’s designer’s do, I wondered if there was a reason Apple chose to show Interstate 280 on the icon. Assuming the answer was “yes”, I decided to try to find that location. So in what I thought was a brilliant move (and brilliant waste of time), I typed “Interstate 280” into Google Maps. I figured I would... Read More
Restoring my faith in iPhone gaming
Not that I ever had very high hopes to begin with, but this video by the French gaming company INT13 has renewed my interest in the idea of the iPhone as a true mobile gaming platform. Their Mario Kart rip-off “Crazy Kart 2” is apparently already boasting a 60 fps framerate using a software-only engine, and a 3D accelerated sequel is already being planned. The game is still in production, but it seems rather ambitious, with multi-player support, downloadable vehicles,... Read More
Celebrity Mac Chick sighting: Blake Lively
OK, this one took a bit of enhancing to confirm, but it looks like Blake Lively, aka “Serena van der Woodsen” on Gossip Girl, is a Mac chick, or at least rocking the iPhone. These shots were taken on March 14th while Blake was walking to the set of Gossip Girls in New York City. It’s a little hard to tell from that photo, but a little Photoshop “Level Adjustment” reveals what appears to be an iPhone in this Snap-On Protective Hard Case. [Via... Read More
Review: Audioengine AW1 Premium Wireless Audio Adapter – It just works
The idea of wirelessly streaming music from a remote home media server to a living room audio system has long been the “Holy Grail” for husbands who have been forced by their wives to move their bulky computers into the basement, and who have been told they cannot drill holes in walls and run wires throughout the house. While in theory I agree that a house looks nicer without a giant CPU tower sitting next to the TV with wires spilling all over the floor, the available... Read More
