Apple “flush” with suspicion, adds water sensor to iPhones/iPod touches
Hardmac/Macbidouille is reporting that Apple has added a “a water sensor in the iPhone and in the iPod Touch” to discourage people from attempting to return accidentally dunked iPhones and iPod touches as defective. This sensor consists of “a white disc that will irreversibly change color when entering in contact with water”, meaning an Apple service rep can tell in a matter of seconds if you are trying to pull a fast one after dropping your iPhone while... What’s wrong with this picture?
Hint: There’s a giant yellow arrow pointing at it. Faithful Macenstein reader The Larch sent in an oddity he noticed while surfing the Apple online store. It seems for whatever reason, Apple is depicting the iPhone with the volume/mute switch on the opposite side – the iPhone’s LEFT instead of its RIGHT (assuming the iPhone is looking at you). We’re assuming this was done to look better compositionally on the store’s layout, sort of making the... Read More
iPhone firmware 1.1.1 gets kicked in the nuts
See? 1.1.1 ain’t so tough! TUAW is reporting that iPhone hacker asap18 has managed to get quite a few apps to run on the infamous new firmware, with more to come. It appears for the moment that only 15 apps can be displayed on the home screen under the new firmware, but we’re betting by the end of next week the geek squad will have fill multiple home screen support re-enabled. Kudos to all involved! Read More
Stop the madness: Do we REALLY care if there are 3 new iPhone commercials?
I’ve mentioned before how even as an admitted Apple Fanboy I have become somewhat disgusted by the amount of press coverage the iPhone receives, but this is really just getting silly. It is now over 4 months since the iPhone’s launch, and the fact that Apple has released 3 new iPhone commercials has somehow made it to the front of almost every Mac news site of note. In fact, ironically they have now made it to the front of Macenstein, thus getting even more press... Read More
One iPhone app to rule them all
Review: Jensen’s Banshee JISS 330 and JISS 550 docking speakers for iPod
Banshee is about to release their JISS 330 and JISS 550 speakers for the iPod, and we managed to get a sneak peak. The JISS 550 and its little brother the JISS 330 look remarkably similar to Banshee’s 5.0 surround sound speakers we reviewed back in July of 2006. We’ve found the Banshee’s “unique” styling is either a big hit or a big miss with most people, but after having seen so many similar-looking iPod speakers, we still appreciate its futuristic,... The REAL reason the iPhone gets so much press
Even as an Apple Fanboy, I have moments of incredulous disgust caused by all the press the iPhone has received. While searching for tech stories it seems these days we must wade through 10 (or more) iPhone-related articles for every 1 non-iPhone tech story. Given that only a million or so iPhones have been sold, and the Earth has about 6.7 billion people, this amount of press coverage (and we are almost 4 months into the launch) seems suspiciously disproportionate. I mean, I own... Read More
Where’s “music menu selection memory” in the new mobile OS X?
Faithful Macenstein reader Justin writes: Figured I would go to you because… a> Macenstein rocks… (Always a good way to start a letter to us) b> You’ve submitted articles about a Leopard question I had before. Anyway, iPhone/iPod Touch question… where the hell is music menu selection memory in the new mobile OS X interface? Remember on your old iPod, if you selected something, a song or album (even items in the settings menu) and went to another part of... Read More
Review: Contour Design’s Showcase for iPhone
Countour Design’s Showcase for the iPhone is that rare animal of case that merges the best parts of other cases to form an entirely new animal. Sort of the platypus of iPhone cases. The Showcase is great for crazy folks like me who painted their iPhone. Now I can protect my expensive “Shrek-green” paint job and see it at the same time! Not quite an acrylic case yet not quite a rubber case either, the Showcase allows you the ability to show off (most of) your... Read More
Alyssa Milano and her iPhone
No story here, just an excuse to put up a picture of Alyssa Milano. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Tony Micelli for the tip! (via Hollywoodtuna). Read More
