Review: Toast 9 – Video Streamer, Audio Recorder, Video compressor… oh, and it still burns stuff too

Few apps have excited me personally the way the latest version of Roxio’s Toast has been able to. I’ll admit that my situation may be somewhat unique, but for those of you who have committed to the digital video lifestyle, as have I, Toast 9 is a must-have tool. First, to let you know where I am coming from, I am a huge fan of watching video on the iPod/iPhone and MacBook. I watch a great deal of my “TV” by ripping DVDs of TV shows using HandBrake and... Read More

Review: Scandyna MicroPod SE speakers and dock for iPod

In looking over my recent speaker reviews, I’ve noticed that I have given out quite a few 8 and 9 out of 10 ratings… well, prepare yourself for yet another. It seems as though speaker technology has gotten so good in recent years that it’s almost impossible to make a bad-sounding iPod speaker for $200. Yet as good as the competition has gotten, the $199 Micropod SE’s by Scandyna have upped the ante, and actually sound as good as some $400 speakers we’ve... Read More

Review: XtremeMac’s Sportwrap for iPhone/iPod

Above: Know what that is? That’s some top-notch stitchin’, that’s what that is! Now that the weather is warming up, I have decided to (reluctantly) put down the cheeseballs, and start exercising again. I haven’t really been running since last November and a lot has changed since then. First of all, I am ridiculously out of shape. But more importantly, and relevant to this article, is the fact that I have become so reliant on my iPhone over the past few... Read More

QuickTime VR (sort of ) finally comes to the iPhone

I’ve lamented about the iPhone’s lack of QTVR support for some time now, and it looks like at least one other person, Marco Giorgini, also thought the omission was odd. Luckily for the rest of us, while all I could do was bitch and moan, Marco was actually smart enough to fix the problem. Marco’s CubeWorld is an app that brings most of the missing QTVR functionality to the iPhone (and the iPod touch… I gotta keep remembering that thing). Basically CubeWorld... Read More

iPods and iPhones that can heal themselves… We’re one step closer to the robot uprising

We’ve all seen it in movies a thousand times… A snail-loving scientist wonders if there is a way to bond protein to various elements in the periodic table and grow new materials, one thing leads to another, and then BAM! Skynet becomes self aware on August 29th 1997 2:14 am Eastern Time. Well, if the trade-off for our eventual enslavement by robots is an iPod that can heal itself of scratches, then I for one would like to welcome our new robot overlords. According... Read More

Review: Audioengine AW1 Premium Wireless Audio Adapter – It just works

The idea of wirelessly streaming music from a remote home media server to a living room audio system has long been the “Holy Grail” for husbands who have been forced by their wives to move their bulky computers into the basement, and who have been told they cannot drill holes in walls and run wires throughout the house. While in theory I agree that a house looks nicer without a giant CPU tower sitting next to the TV with wires spilling all over the floor, the available... Read More

iEmulator for iPhone/iPod touch – Finally, the “I Love You” virus can run on the iPhone

Above: that’s right, we’re assuming if Windows DOES ever run on the iPhone, the auto-rotate feature won’t work (actually, we were just too lazy to do a proper Photoshop job). iEmulator has announced that thanks to Apple’s recently announced iPhone SDK, it will be able to bring a Windows emulator to the iPhone by the 2nd quarter of this year. Publicity stunt, gimmick, or ploy? You Decide!

Abilene Christian University first university in nation to provide iPhone or iPod touch to all incoming freshmen. And there’s probably a reason for that. I’m sorry… I am all for schools adopting the latest and greatest technology (especially Apple’s) but this has the words “publicity stunt” written all over it. I’m not sure giving away a $400 gadget these days is enough to boost enrollment numbers, and odds are you either want to go to... Read More
