Liberace called. He wants his MacBook Air back.
Were you thinking about buying a MacBook Air but were worried you weren’t spending enough bucks for your bang? Well, you’re in luck. Computer Choppers have created the world’s first 24kt Gold & Sapphires Macbook Air, and surprisingly, it doesn’t look quite as tacky as we thought. Above: The gold plating looks pretty damn cool, although the sapphire Apple logo may not be for everyone. Of course, Computer Choppers knows anyone willing to pay for... Read More
Poll: Is the MacBook Air’s keyboard ugly?
Above: One of these things is not like the others.. but for how long? AppleInsider’s reports of an aluminum upgrade to the MacBook line is welcome news, at least to those of use who feel our white MacBooks are a tad on the girly side. However the one aspect to the rumor that has me a bit worried is that the new MacBooks will adopt the MacBook Air’s keyboard, which I find to be ugly. It reminds me of a PC notebook’s keyboard. I guess I am old-school, but I like... Read More
Charlie Rose eats asphalt to protect his MacBook Air
Above: Charlie Rose on last Monday’s show showing off his Apple Fanboy battle scars TechCrunch has a great story that pretty much any Apple Fanboy has to respect. Apparently last Monday, Charlie Rose, host of the creatively named Charlie Rose Show, tripped in a pothole on the way to his studio while carrying his MacBook Air. Knowing that faces heal, but computers don’t (at least not yet) Rose did what any red-blooded Apple fanatic would, he protected the MB Air,... Read More
Wozniak thinks Apple is lying about 3G battery life
At the recent Australian Communication Industry Association conference, Steve Wozniak made a number of interesting comments about current Apple products, such as the Apple TV, MacBook Air, and the iPhone. While many of his comments are typical “I wish it did this”, or “It’s a little overpriced”, one comment on the iPhone stuck out as interesting to me. Apple has long claimed the decision to support EDGE over 3G is due solely to battery life issues.... Read More
Review: Waterfield Designs’ Laptop Sleeve
MacBook owners jealous of the MacBook Air’s slim form factor may not be able to ditch their MacBook’s excess weight, but they can do the next best thing by ditching their bulky laptop bag. San Francisco-based Waterfield Designs has a range of lightweight laptop sleeves that will have you wondering why you put up with back strain all those years. We tried out their SleeveCase with Flap and Strap, a good compromise between a regular laptop bag and one of their strapless... Read More
Lily Allen and her MacBook Air
Well, it certainly isn’t the most flattering photo we’ve seen of (seemingly) Mac Chick Lily Allen, but faithful Macenstein reader lewisozz sent us a picture of a rather angry looking Lily Allen holding her new MacBook Air. Maybe she’s a FireWire fan? Lily’s MySpace blog mentioned she got the Air free from Vanity Fair earlier this month. Lily is best known for her single “Smile” which reached number one on the UK singles charts in July 2006.... Read More
“There is something in the bathroom…” The iToilet
Faithful Macenstein reader Federico Frappi and his friend Valerio sent us these pics of the most beautiful toilet, er… media server, this side of the 1 Infinite Loop men’s room. Behold the “iToilet“. “My friend Valerio and I came up with this really messed up idea when we found a toilet abandoned along a street“, write Federico, “the iToilet!“. I’m sure they considered naming it the “iPoo“, but it’s been... Read More
ColorWare now painting MacBook Airs for “only” $710
Finally, you can get your all-black MacBook Air. For a price. I love my ColorWare-painted iPhone, and it has held up extremely well over the past 6 months – not a scratch on it – but I’m not sure even I would drop an extra $710 to get my MacBook Air painted (if I had one). Of course, that doesn’t mean I can’t waste hours of my time playing with their online color picker! Somehow the lime green doesn’t look as cool here as it does on my iPhone…... Read More
Poll: How many charge cycles does your battery have?
My “new” Macbook is my first laptop in about 10 years, so I’m not overly familiar with how long these new-fangled rechargeable jobbers can potentially last. So out of curiosity, I thought I would take a poll of our readership to see how many charge cycles their current Mac Laptop battery is running on. To test this, I am using the excellent (free) iStat Pro widget by iSlayer. I bought my MacBook on November 3rd, and as you can see, it currently has 76 charges,... Read More
Multi-touch trackpads a simple software update for current Mac laptops?
[UPDATE: T3 seems to have removed their post, for whatever reason (see below in the comments)] T3 is reporting that the multi-touch trackpad featured in the MacBook Air, and presumably one of the new features in the soon-to-be-released MacBook Pros, is not hardware-based, but rather a simple software hack that could in theory be made available to current MacBook and MacBook Pro owners. That is, if Apple allows it. Read More Read More
