I’m not sure knowing makes me feel any better

Well, while I admit I can’t figure out why Apple chose to design it this way, it looks like the fine folks over at Joy of Tech have figured out why the iPhone takes so long to sync. I would hope that in a future iPhone update Apple can find a way to have the iPhone watch the shortest movie on your hard drive. Right now my iPhone seems to always choose to watch the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy.  Read More

Catching up with MCotM Lauren Reeves, 1 year later

We recently ran into our August 2007 Mac Chick of the Month Lauren Reeves and noticed she was sporting a brand new 3G iPhone – so we decided to use our meeting as a chance to catch up with Lauren, get her feelings on the new iPhone, and of course, to use it as an excuse to run some more pictures of one of our favorite MCotM’s. Macenstein: Hey Lauren. So, what have you been up to since last year’s Mac Chick feature? Lauren: Things have been going great... Read More

Ok, someone back me up here

And speaking of Lucasfilm… is it just me, or does the icon for Carrie’s Dots look something like Boba Fett‘s helmet? Ok, before you trip over yourself saying “no”, just stare at the words “Carrie’s Dots” in that sentence above the pic, let your eyes lose focus, like you are supposed to do in those annoying “Magic Eye” puzzles that were all the rage in NJ malls 10 years ago, and then just try to tell me if you don’t... Read More

Apple no longer cares about Unlocked iPhones?

Remember that exciting game of cat and mouse Apple was playing with hackers of the 1st gen iPhone? Each and every iPhone update, in addition to some bug fix or throw away feature, also broke the ability of the device to be jailbroken and unlocked for use on other carriers. Well, although with multiple international carriers and the new app store there is less reason than ever to jailbreak your iPhone, faithful French Macenstein reader le Mac claims his unlocked and jailbroken... Read More

Review: MotionX Poker – That’s how I roll, baby

Having found myself fully caught up in the excitement of the iTunes App store launch, I have gone on a bit of a buying spree with the iPhone apps lately, and unfortunately, I have experienced quite a bit of buyer’s remorse as well. Especially with the games. It isn’t so much that the games aren’t well made, or don’t do what they claim to, it’s just that for whatever reason, the replay value is just not there. That is why I feel compelled to tell... Read More

Celebrity Mac Chick sighting Revisited: Blake Lively

You may remember we spotted Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively with her iPhone (and school girl outfit) earlier this year. Well, it looks like Blake is a bit of a gadget freak, and has upgraded her iPhone to the new 3G model. I don’t know what it is about this picture, but I can’t help staring at those two great big, beautiful, pointy cones. (The orange ones on the ground, that is). Read More  Read More

Behold! The best description of an iPhone game… ever

Engrish… It’s not just for Eastern Asia anymore OK, let me just say up front that I fully admit that if I tried to describe a game in Italian, it would be a disaster, but honestly, read the following description of the iPhone game Oxxo, and tell me if you are any clearer on the finer points of gameplay after you have read it. Above: You sure about that? Wow. Every line is gold. I’m not really sure why there are so many exclamation points there… but I... Read More

Nullriver giveth tethering; Apple taketh away [UPDATED]

Last night for all of about 18 minutes, iPhone users were able to buy Nullriver’s NetShare, a $9.99 app that allowed users to share their iPhone’s internet connection with their computer. Apple removed the download link from the Apple store by the time most of us (myself included) heard about it last night, although they left NetShare’s description page up as if to taunt us. Ooohhh that would have been sweet. AT&T, the US iPhone carrier, currently does... Read More

iTunes 7.7.1 …And Apple’s QC problems keep on comin’!

Apple released iTunes 7.7.1 this evening (via Software Update). According to Apple, the update: iTunes 7.7.1 includes fixes to improve stability and performance. I consider myself a big fan of both stability and performance in general, so I’m all for this update. Unfortunately, the improved performance doesn’t seem to include cutting down on my insane backups times (still usually between 20-minutes and an hour). And two other things I found odd… First, after... Read More
