digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/New_York_Transit_Authority_using_Keynote_to_run_its_kiosks; Faithful Macenstein reader Mike Solomon from over at The Cleverist sent us this video he made providing pretty convincing evidence that the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority is using Apple’s Keynote software to run its kiosks, as illustrated by those trademark transitions... QuickTime VR (sort of ) finally comes to the iPhone
I’ve lamented about the iPhone’s lack of QTVR support for some time now, and it looks like at least one other person, Marco Giorgini, also thought the omission was odd. Luckily for the rest of us, while all I could do was bitch and moan, Marco was actually smart enough to fix the problem. Marco’s CubeWorld is an app that brings most of the missing QTVR functionality... Read More
Starplayr 1.7.7 brings Sirius Radio to your Mac with style
Above: While I am ashamed to admit I already own this Bulletboys album, it’s nice to be able to know I could record an MP3 of it off Hair Nation if I had to. Don’t let those fugly, horribly designed control buttons fool you, Starplayr by NiceMac is the best-designed Sirius player you will find for the Mac, and yes, it’s free (well, free assuming you have a Sirius... Safari 3.1 released – HTML 5 CSS Animations
There are a bunch of improvements listed, including support for HTML 5 specs and CSS Animations, but my two favorites are “Stability: Improves Stability” and “Compatibility: Improves Compatibility”. The Leopard version weighs in around 35 MB, while the Tiger is a slim and trim 25.7 MB. So, does anyone else find it odd a Safari point release requires a... Read More
IntelliSchool Free is released – Free open source school database system
Macenstein has a huge FileMaker following (well, one reader, I know of anyway), so I thought it only fitting to pass this bit of news along. Faithful UK Macenstein reader Simon Elliott writes: “I wrote a school pupil data system in FileMaker Pro three years ago and it has been used in a school ever since. When I wrote the system, the most frustrating thing was being unable... Read More
iPhone firmware 1.1.4 released! And the new features are…um… nothing?
Well, it doesn’t exactly add Flash support, or any discernible new features at all, but Apple has released the highly anticipated (and therefore highly disappointing) iPhone firmware 1.1.4. All that is mentioned under What’s New is “bug fixes”, which if it stops Safari from crashing on my iPhone while I listen to music, I’m all for. Read More
Elgato releases EyeTV 3.0.1 – The begining of the end for TitanTV?
Well, nothing incredibly major hear, but as a fan of EyeTV I’m always happy to see “numerous bug fixes” listed in an update, even if I haven’t encountered them yet. The big news in this update seems to be new support for the XMLTV Electronic Programming Guide. The XML guide seems to have the potential to be very cool, and looks like it’s perhaps showing... Apple releases Leopard Graphics Update
Apple has released a 48.6 MB graphics update for Leopard. I guess Apple didn’t want to hit the 400MB mark with its 10.5.2 update. It seems to only show up in Software Update once you have downloaded the 10.5.2 update, but the stand alone installer is here. Leopard Graphics Update is recommended for all users and improves the stability and compatibility of your Mac. This... Read More
FileMaker Server 9.0v3 release imminent, Leopard support in the cards
Well, it ain’t exactly a new iPod or MacBook Pro rumor or anything, but a little bird has alerted us that FileMaker will be releasing a FileMaker Server 9.0v3 updater next week that will finally provide Leopard compatibility for FileMaker Server 9. Other details are scarce, but according to our source, FileMaker Server 9.0v3 “provides some important fixes for Windows... Read More
