Apple caught up in playola “scandal”
Oh man, wait ’till Eliot Spitzer gets a hold of this one! Coincidence? That’s right. Just minutes after the world learned that Randy Newman was still alive, who should show up on iTunes as the “featured artist” of the week than none other than the Singing Bush himself, Randy Newman. Could it be that playing Steve off the stage comes with a bit of “playola” in the form of free advertising on the most popular music download site known to man?... Read More
MWSF: The biggest surprise? Randy Newman is still alive!
Well, looks like the MacBook Air rumors proved true, and we’re going to have to get used to the name after all. Apple today released a few new updates to existing products (Airport, iTunes, and iPhone) but the big news was the much rumored MacBook Air. Apple bills the MacBook Air as “the world’s thinnest notebook”, and from the pictures, who could argue? “How did we fit a Mac in here?” wondered Steve during his Keynote speech. Well, they... Mac Chick Becca lands on iTunes
Ahhh, who could forget the lovely Becca, our 2nd Mac Chick of the month ever! We certainly can’t. It seems like only yesterday that we were begging the young gold-record-owning singer, songwriter, and performer to let us feature her as our Miss November 2006. Since then we’ve been closely following Becca’s career, and things have really been taking off. First, we told you back in May that Becca stole the show in Chris Cornell’s “Arms Around Your... Looney (i)Tunes!
Warner Brothers has released roughly 60 “classic” Looney Tunes episodes on iTunes (the definition of “classic” here seemingly an even split between meaning “good” and “old”, but there are some real gems here to be sure). Each $1.99 iTunes “episode” contains 2 different WB shorts, and runs approximately 15 minutes. Given the amount of TNT most Looney Tunes episodes sported, you’re likely get quite a lot of “bang”... NBC bleeding cash after ditching iTunes
Ok, while the fanboy in us wants to blame this solely on NBC’s pulling its shows from iTunes, the reality is that NBC/Universal seems to just not have all that many shows worth watching these days. According to Yahoo News, NBC has missed pretty much all of its advertising goals, forcing it to refund on average about $500,000 per advertiser. Now, we’re not saying if we could buy Battlestar Galactica on iTunes none of this would have happened, but throw in Heroes, and... Read More

Like most negligent parents, I am going to go ahead and blindly trust the Disney name and not bother to pre-screen it, even for the purposes... Read More

Professors Jobs and Gore rock the iTunes U
Yet another inevitable sign of a 2012 Al Gore/Steve Jobs presidential bid can be found on Apple’s iTunes U, where Steve and Al hold the number 1 and 2 spots respectively. Steve’s 2005 Commencement Speech at Stanford landed him the top spot, while Eeyore Al Gore’s speech The Earth in the Balance (coincidentally also delivered at Stanford) landed him the number 2 spot. Yes, truly these two Apple chiefs are striking a chord with today’s youth, and no doubt... Read More
