“Electric Computers”? OK, Now Apple is just fucking with us
It takes such little effort for Apple to get front page publicity. A simple thing like changing the description on their cargo manifest to read “electric computers” from “desktop computers” has got the rumor community’s knickers in a twist. It seems that between those mysterious 188 containers everyone is talking about and that alleged solar iPhone… Apple has decided the best way to advertise is now viral. Simply patent something you may or... Read More
He’s got the whole world in his hands
Well, it’s not quite Google Earth, but earthscape.com has a pretty feature complete demo of a 3D globe running on the iPhone complete with tilt navigation and that pinchy zoomy goodness we all paid the big bucks for. Of course, Google Earth on the iPhone is pretty much a party trick, as who the hell needs the ability to zoom around the earth while waiting in line at Dunkin Donuts? (Oh, excuse me, STARBUCKS. I forgot it was the iPhone we were talking about for second). Read More
Why I don’t recommend putting your headphones in the dryer
Well, I wish I could blame this on the Bride of Macenstein for not going through my pants pockets carefully enough before doing the wash, but hey, she’s nice enough to wash my pants in the first place, so I’ll cut her some slack. Oddly enough, the iPhone’s headset seems to work fine despite going through a full wash cycle and an hour-long “Permanent Press” drying. Even the inline remote seems to work fine. The cord itself is now a bit crinkley... Read More
Oh For the love of God, WHY?!!
Faithful Macenstein reader Jordan sent us some pics of the most unholy of unholy abominations. No, not poolside pics of Woz – even worse. That’s right, ModMyifone forum member ebl4287 has come up with one of the most well-executed and elaborate iPhone skins to date. Unfortunately, it is designed to mimic the “thrill” of running Windows Vista on your iPhone. He certainly gets triple geek points for execution, but loses 30 charisma points for his choice... When product placement goes horribly wrong [NSFW]
I first heard Riskay‘s timeless classic “Smell Yo Dick” a few months back on the Howard Stern Show, but I never thought to look and see if there was a video for this lyrical masterpiece. Sure enough, faithful Macenstein reader Greg has uncovered said video, and Apple’s iPhone has almost as much screen time as Riskay. This is probably the worst product placement nightmare Apple PR has had to face since they accidentally placed Woz with Kathy Griffin. Read More
iPhone vs. Mac OS X – Who has the correct forecast?
I noticed something odd when checking the weather today on my iPhone and my laptop… Above: My iPhone says I am in for a sucky week. Above: Leopard says I have a sunnier future. Does anyone else find it odd that Apple uses 2 different services for Weather? The iPhone uses Yahoo (which uses the Weather Channel) and Leopard apparently uses AccuWeather. (For the record, at the moment, looking outside, it appears the iPhone is more accurate). Thanks to faithful Macenstein... Read More
Those darn foreigners piss in Apple’s coffee again. TWICE!
Poor Apple. The infamously secretive company has once again had some of its secretive beans spilled by leaks coming from foreign partners who did not get the memo that Apple likes to announce its own products, thank you very much. First up comes news from Intel’s GERMAN CEO Hannes Schwaderer that there will be a brand new, larger iPhone-like device coming from Apple soon. “As part of an Intel event for the 40th birthday of the semiconductor company at Munich’s... The iPhone is “green” enough for Italy
While those Apple-hating, tree-hugging, Greenpeace hippies may have decided the iPhone is clubbing baby seals in the US, apparently the more reasonable folks over in Italy have the sense to look past the iPhone’s potential environmental concerns – even the Minister of Environment. Above: Prestigiacomo(left) and Italy’s PM Berlusconi (right) Faithful Macenstein reader Camillo Miller from over at the apple lounge has sent us this shot of Italy’s Minister... Read More
Rumor: No new iPhone until June 24th?
Say it ain’t so! Faithful Macenstein reader Art Vandelay writes: After hearing about the iPhone Shortage, I decided to call and ask for myself, to see if I could squeeze out any information, and after pressing him [The Apple rep] as to when to expect the iPhones, he told me “June 24th”, or last week of June. The order he placed [for a customer] before I called said that was the estimated delivery date, according to the computer. He also told me that the reason... Read More
My firmware goes up to 11, beeyatch!
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/My_firmware_goes_up_to_11G_beeyatch; 3G? Big deal. MY firmware goes to 11, beeyatch! Obviously having to wear gloves somewhat limits the iPhone’s touchscreen-based GUI, but the speed increase is well worth it IMO. Read More
