iSlate to run 10.7 “Clouded Leopard” OS? OF COURSE! It all makes sense now!!
OK, as with all unconfirmed (and likely 99% 110% fake) iSlate rumors, take this with a grain of whatever condiment you’d like, but faithful Macenstein reader imalk noticed this picture show up on Gizmodo for all of 20 seconds before being pulled. Now, we assume Giz pulled it because they feel it is so fake it isn’t even worth trying to get hits off of, but we’re not so proud. And quite frankly, while I do not personally believe it to be a legit leak, I would... Read More
Even the way Macs CRASH is artsy
When James Theophane, creative director for the Lost Boys agency, was asked to contribute a piece of art for a recent reception, he decided to go the “mixed medium” route. Taking a horrible old Flea Market painting, James painted over the lower half and added a motorized foam core “beach ball of death” to simulate a Mac freezing up while loading a jpg. Of course, most people born in the last 20 years or so can’t even remember when a jpg would load... Read More
Top Ten Reasons to Upgrade to Snow Leopard TODAY
I’ve seen more than a few interweb critics panning Apple’s Snow Leopard as merely a service pack update, but since installing Snow Leopard yesterday morning, I’ve decided they couldn’t be more wrong. Sure, the only REAL change is the 64-bit stuff that likely won’t matter until sometime around when OS 10.7 comes out, but I’ve noticed more than a few “must-have” goodies that each on their own would more than justify the upgrade cost.... I have tiny balls! (Thanks to Magnifique!)
Fans of custom OS themes rejoice! Magnifique is here! OK, so maybe shrinking those jolly, candy-like buttons wasn’t my FIRST gripe with the Leopard interface, but it’s nice to have a choice, isn’t it? Magnifique is a free app that lets you view and install a range of themes in their library, or make your own. Have you always wanted black windows (preferably with hard to read text?) Well, now you can! As you can see, it also changes theme colors across... Read More
Snow Leopard pics leaked
German site Sevenmac has posted a slew of alleged leaked pics of Snow Leopard, if you care. For some reason I can never get excited about pics like this that basically show the “Get info” screen of various apps with a slightly updated version number from what I am currently running, especially for a largely “performance update” vs. a “feature update”, as Snow Leopard is said to be, but I figured I’d let you know where to find them... Why does Apple still include the “Computer Name” screen saver in OS X?
Faithful Macenstein reader Brian brings up an excellent question for which I could think of no answer: “Why does Apple still include the “Computer Name” screen saver in OS X?” Surely, there is no lamer screen saver in creation, on any platform. For a company that hangs its hat on beautiful design, this screen saver feels more like someone at Apple wanted an even number of screen savers than that anyone spent any real time on it. Functionally, my best... Read More

What’s your favorite keyboard shortcut combination?
As someone who has more or less raised laziness to an art form, I am obviously a huge fan of keyboard shortcuts. This afternoon, it occurred to me that my current all time favorite must be hitting the “U” key in Adobe After Effects. This simple button press (when a layer is selected) brings up all the current properties that you have applied keyframes to in a layer, and I would say it has saved me something like 2 years of “expanding layer properties” time...
