Mo’ Apps, Mo’ Problems. Whose iPhone 2.0 migration has gone smoothly?
Not mine, I’ll tell you that much. While I love the iPhone, and the Apps, I do not love the “rickety” feeling my gen 1 iPhone has now, as if I must handle it with kid gloves or risk crashing it. Not that it matters, kid gloves or not, it crashes. And don’t get me started on those hour-long syncs… Mo’ Apps, Mo’ Problems At first the migration seemed to go well. I upgraded my firmware Friday morning, downloaded/bought a few apps, played... Read More
OK, now this is just getting embarrassing
Remember a couple weeks ago when I accidentally washed and dried my iPhone headphones? Miraculously, despite being somewhat crinkly, they appeared to work just fine. Well, for about a week anyway. After a week or so the left earbud began emitting a horrible static sound about 80% of the time, so it was off to the Apple store for another $20 pair of earbuds. Well, wouldn’t you know it, lightning has struck twice, and my brand new set of earbuds have followed in the in the... Read More
So, why is there no “Invisible” in the iChat Menu Bar?
Truly one of life’s great thrills is going online in iChat with your status set to “invisible“. It’s pretty much the closest you can get to joining the CIA without actually getting off the couch and enlisting. But as much as I love the ability to spy on my iChat friends without them knowing I am online, one thing thing that puts an extra dagger in my Cloak and Dagger web surfing is that for some reason “Invisible” is not an option from the iChat... Damn you, port forwarding!
Anyone out there a wiz with port forwarding that would have a clue as to how to guide me through setting up Roxio’s Streamer? I am using Verizon FiOS and their Actiontec router. Not they they can trouble shoot every router, but Roxio’s joke of a Streamer help section lists only this support page http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Toast/000060T?set-locale=en as far as I can tell I have opened Port 10080, but get a Safari error page when attempting to access my stream. Thanks... Read More
New “unlimited” iPhone plan has same old embarrassing SMS limits
As someone with no friends, the basic 450 minute iPhone calling plan with its 200 text messages is more than adequate for my needs. However, each time I go to the movies (by myself) I notice the throngs of teens (with friends) text messaging each other, quite often texting the person sitting next to them. It actually seems these days that text messaging is more important in a phone than the actual ability to make a call. Because of this, I find it odd that AT&T’s... Read More
STILL with the combo drive!?! REALLY?!?
REALLY? Seriously?!? Why not add an $800 “floppy drive” model if the optical drive is so expensive? Read More
Why doesn’t the MacBook Air have wireless USB?
Why didn’t the first company to ditch the floppy drive decide to ditch USB cables? Dell’s XPS M1530, Inspiron 1525, 17-inch Inspiron 1720 and 13-inch M1330 all have wireless USB options, so why doesn’t the MacBook Air? It certainly would have played into the Air’s naming and marketing schemes. Sure, the wireless Dells are ugly, but given the lack of expansion ports on the Air, swapping out the USB port for a FireWire one and including wireless USB would... Read More
Bitch and you shall receive – Apple fixes “Adobe-killing” QuickTime bug
Apple today released QuickTime 7.4.1, an update which “addresses security issues and improves compatibility with third-party applications. This release is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.” I have done a test to see if this “improved compatibility with third-party applications” fixes the Adobe After Effects crashes I’ve been bitching talking about, and I am happy to say the answer seems to be “yes”. Where After Effects had been... Read More
Why QuickTime 7.4 sucks: Reason 23 – It ate my codecs
For those of you wondering what the first 22 reasons QuickTime 7.4 sucks are, they are the 22 days Apple has not issued a fix for the “bug” QuickTime 7.4 introduced which has caused Adobe After Effects and Premiere to crash on export (Click here to read a thread on Apple’s support site on the topic with over 19,000 views). But I will now add another reason why QT 7.4 sucks to the pile – it ate my codecs. Without warning, upgrading to QuickTime 7.4 from... Read More
Apple choosing iTunes Movie Rentals over its Professional customers
Is QuickTime 7.4 the worst QuickTime update Apple has ever released? That’s a tough question. It certainly has produced the most problems for me personally. I have mentioned before that I am an Adobe After Effects user. It’s how I feed my family, and pay for my house. Having a working copy of After Effects is a close third behind food and water on my short list of things I need to survive. Unfortunately for me, and many other professional users, Apple’s newly...
