Macenstein’s Macworld predictions: Pretty sure “Air”=Apple TV and something = “Blu-ray”
With just a few hours left before Macworld’s keynote, we figured we would throw our best “guesses” at the mysterious Stevenote, in the hopes of grabbing some small measure of “We told you so” satisfaction should these predictions prove true. Since somehow no one has been able to blow the lid off this year’s announcements, we’re able to let our imaginations go a bit crazy here, which is always part of the fun of Macworld predicting. (Of... Read More
Apple owns the MacBookAir domain… or do they?
Uh oh… MacDailyNews is reporting that Apple owns the rights to the MacBookAir domain. According to the site, MacBookAir.org, MacBookAir.us, MacBookAir.biz, and MacBookAir.info all show a 1 Infinite Loop address. MacBookAir.com and .net currently do not provide registration info, but odds are they too are registered to a certain Cupertino address. Or are they? Before we all run off pell mell, there are some questions to be answered however. First, how hard is it to put a... Read More
Commence postulating: First Macworld Teaser Banner unfurled
Ars has posted the first shots of Apple’s 2008 Macworld teaser banners. The shots taken at the Moscone Center show a giant banner with the words “There’s something in the air.” What could it mean? We’re guessing, either Steve knows he’s going to have broccoli the night before his speech, or we’re talking wireless HD rental movies streamed to new Apple TVs. Read More
Uh oh… looks like John Mayer is free January 15th…
OK, nobody panic. This may be nothing, but… a quick check of John Mayer’s website, pollstar.com, and ticketmaster.com all add up to one alarming conclusion: John Mayer is not currently touring, and by all accounts is available to play once again at this year’s Macworld. His last listed tour date was December 12th in Los Angeles (so he could still very well be in the California area, assuming he has no access to a car) and his next scheduled date is February... iTablet: Ramblings of a madman revisited
“remember my Mac Nano leak? Well, this patent shows that Apple HAS been researching docking technology -slash – turn a portable or tablet into a desktop methods. Maybe now I’ll get the respect I so richly deserve!” Such are the words of faithful Macenstein reader Doug who is referring to his November 30th e-mail to us in which he outlined Apple’s future plans to bring about a dockable, portable device. We cleverly titled the article “The... Read More
Rumor: Blu-ray Apple TV at Macworld
Ok, let’s preface this (as always) by pointing to our less-than-stellar track record when it comes to uncovering any real dirt leading up to a Macworld… but on the odd chance lightning decides to strike once, we pass this little bit of info on to you, dear readers. Remember the Apple TV? No? Well, it is a hobby of Steve Jobs, and he runs Apple. You can look it up here. Anyway, apparently, according to faithful Macenstein reader Anonymous, it will finally get an update... Read More
Where’s Gear Live’s “cease and desist” letter?
Separating fact from fiction is often no easy task, and this is even more true when it comes to the Mac rumor community. In these days of Photoshop and affordable versions of previously “pro-only” effects software (such as Maya and Shake), picking out the real “leaked” photos and videos from from the fan creations is increasingly difficult. To date there has been only one sure-fire way to distinguish a delicious Baby Ruth from a cleverly wrapped piece of... Read More
WTF? – ThinkSecret – still in business until at least February 14th?
We here at Macenstein love a good mystery, and if there isn’t a good mystery available, we’ll settle for a mediocre mystery. To that end, we are focusing today on the biggest Mac mystery of the moment, that of ThinkSecret‘s Apple settlement. Faithful Macenstein reader Michael Johnston of iPhone Alley read our post on ThinkSecret‘s continued publication despite their claiming to have shut down as part of their settlement with Apple, and pointed our news-hungry... When is a legally closed Mac site NOT a legally closed Mac site?
When it’s ThinkSecret, of course! Faithful Macenstein reader Shackelford points out that ThinkSecret has published 3 new articles since its infamous December 20th “Apple, Think Secret settle lawsuit” post in which it was stated “Think Secret will no longer be published”. Above: Apparently the phrase “Think Secret will no longer be published†is open to interpretation. The three posts (two as recent as today) are standard news type articles... Read More
Updated Airport Extreme Base Station at Macworld?
Faithful UK Macenstein reader Steven Haskayne alerts us that the Airport Extreme base station is marked “no longer available” on the UK Apple store under the “ready to ship” date. “With Macworld looming do you think that this could be a sign?” asks Stephen. “Surely if it was out of stock it would just say that?“. Hmm Steven. We agree the wording does seem a little “final”. However, the US store still shows a 24-hour... Read More
