11-inch MacBook Air is ZOMG Awesome!
Initial benchmarks have placed the new 11-inch MacBook Air very close in performance to the top of the line MacBook Pro of last year, and shown a nearly 150% increase in Geekbench scores. Yet, for anyone doubting the awesomeness of the of the 11-inch MacBook Air, check out Apple’s part number for the fully maxed out 11-inch model. ZOMG! Looks like Apple knows it’s got a winner. Enter to WIN: A set of Audioengine A2 speakers!
Thank you, we have a winner. This contest is closed. Congrats to faithful Macenstein reader Jason! Just the speakers. 2008 iMac not included. Who like’s winning $200 speakers? Anyone? No? OK, I guess I’ll just have to keep these sweet Audioengine A2’s. It’s a shame, really, because I already have a pair, and they rock. Perhaps you remember my awesome YouTube video (below) of how their deceivingly powerful bass could blow down TWO of the Three Little (Canadian)... Read More
The New Macbook ‘Fro
Out of all the recent Apple parody videos, this is my new favorite. It’s so ridiculously stupid, and so well done, it completely speaks to me. The “Aluminium” line is perfect. The New MacBook ‘Fro from Skye Leith on Vimeo. I assume there was much discussion as to the name and MacBook Fro must have barely edged out the “MacBook hAir”. Thanks to faithful Macenstien reader Skye for the link! Read More
WARNING! Keep those magnets away from that small area between your USB and Headphone port on your MacBook Air!
That’s right. No matter how tempting it is, apparently placing a magnet on the left side of a late 2010 MacBook Air, right between the USB port and the headphone jack, will cause the WiFi and screen to turn off. So far Apple has not provided a solution for users who need to store their magnets there, and Apple PR has not returned our calls on this important matter. via Notebooks.com Read More
How To: Reclaim your function keys with FunctionFlip
Those handy little keyboard shortcuts for things like display brightness and iTunes playback which Apple has placed all along the top row of Function Keys on your laptop keyboard can be a real time saver, but they can also suck up the place when you just want to quick access to what a Function Key was supposed to do. Whether you’re a hard-core gamer (well, medium-core gamer, if you’re on a Mac) using Word macros, or have a bunch of saved Actions in Photoshop assigned... Read More
What happens when the MacBook Air meets dynamite?
Now that the new MacBook Air has been released, I think it’s safe to say that the old one is completely useless. Macenstein reader Scott Gawlik and friend agree, and decided to see what would happen if someone were to set of two M-1000 explosives on it. The results are as follows. Now, normally I am not impressed by the “blowing up of tech” videos (especially ones where they do not show whether the device was functional beforehand), and I’m still not.... Read More

Back to the Mac Event: The Good The Bad, and the Meh
As with all big Apple events, I once again find people turning to me for my opinion on the announcements from Apple’s Back to the Mac Event. Honestly I can’t blame them, as my opinion is often the only correct one when it comes to such things. I seem to have the uncanny ability to cut through the hype with laser beam-like precision, and somehow categorize the day’s events into one of three categories: Good, Bad, and Meh. Here’s how the Back to the Mac... Read More
Acrobatic Apple thieves “steal different”
In a world of “Smash and Grab” Apple thefts and gun-totting thugs, it’s nice to see a professional Apple Heist where no-one gets hurt. Case in point, the theft of 20 Apple laptops from a South Brunswick, NJ Best Buy where the thieves apparently pulled a Tom Cruise, descending from ropes in the ceiling to avoid setting off alarms, and then jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch proclaiming their love for Katie Holmes. On top of the building, they used a... Read More
“The 12 Days AFTER Christmas” Giveaway: Day 19 – Any Speck laptop case you want
This contest is closed. Congrats to faithful Macenstein reader Howard. On the Nineteenth Day After Christmas, Macenstein gave to you (or, more accurately, gave you a chance to win…) Any Speck Apple laptop case you want! In the past we used to give out specific cases, say, a pink 17-inch MacBook Pro case. Problem was, if you didn’t have a 17-inch MBP, or didn’t like pink, well, you pretty much didn’t care. But this year the good folks at Speck came up... Read More
