Slow News Day - Macenstein - Page 11

Do Macintoshes Dream of Electric Sheep?

Faithful Macenstein reader (and fellow Dr.) Dr. Games sent us this trippy piece of footage created by Mike Kan. The video is an attempt by Kan to visualize the Mac’s “boot-up sequence, initial program loader or phantom system, memory scans, hard drive signals and etc.” Kan used a custom designed bus monitor to create this real-time visualization of what your Mac is thinking when booting, all in real-time. The effect is referred to as “constellation mode”,... Read More

Has anyone cracked open the “new” iPhone to take a looksee?

Slow news days always tend to set us to speculating and “what if”-ing. So here’s some food for thought… Above: PC World wasted no time cracking open the FIRST iPhones… Back when the first gen iPhone was released, there were no shortages of people willing to crack open their expensive gadget and flood the web with sexy pics of the insides. In part much of this was done to verify that, no, Apple had not somehow included UMTS or HSDPA radio in the iPhone,... Read More

Poll: How much “Apple” music do you own?

[Hey, it’s our first poll, so please take it!] Apple users are often categorized by the press as mindless followers, a cult that obeys the commands of the Almighty Steve, and will more often than not buy anything Apple decides to put out (or at least WANT to buy it). For the most part I consider myself to be a card carrying member of that cult. There haven’t been too many Apple product announcements recently that I would not have bought if money were not an issue.... Read More

Bring Stacks home: The Prove Shelves by Creosa

Faithful Macenstein reader Jim came across these crazy newfangled shelves on freshome that bear a striking resemblance to Leopard’s Stacks. While ordinary bookshelves can only mimic Leopard’s Stacks feature’s “grid view”, the Prove Shelves, designed by the German company Creosa, do a very respectable job mimicking Leopard’s “fan” layout. Sure, they may not have been designed to look like Stacks, but when you are an Apple fan, you... Read More

If you can sit, you can get fit… The Hawaii Chair!

OK, this is not Mac related, and I know you guys frown on videos, but if you don’t at least crack a smile watching this, you have no soul. (iPhone users click here to watch the video) Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Kelly (who begged us not to post it) for the link!  Read More

Help the readers: GMail “To-Do” troubles

Faithful Macenstein reader airfang writes: Sup, doc! So I have Gmail IMAP set up with Mail, but now whenever I tried to create a To-Do item in Mail, it automatically goes under the category “Gmail” and will be sent to my Gmail server as well. Furthermore it creates a “calendar” under the category “Gmail” in iCal as well, and remains the only choice of calendar for the To-Do item. I simply want the To-Do item created in Mail to be local. But... Read More

The “iPhone SDK bitching” developers – A bunch of babies?

Above: Delphi managed to control a car using the iPhone’s mobile Safari. Now, I’m sure an iPhone SDK will lead to some amazing apps (and a ton of lame ones) but honestly, I think many developers started bitching a bit too early and too loudly last year when Apple announced the iPhone was going to allow for “Safari-only” apps. I understand the major arguments for wanting an iPhone SDK – chiefly, “how the hell do you make money on a web app?”... Read More

Find 3 awesome things in this picture

Fans of the Transformers movie likely remember actress Megan Fox more than the robots, and with good reason. Somehow giant alien robots seemed more plausible than that someone on Earth could actually look as good as she does. Since we are big fans of Megan’s, we we overjoyed when faithful Macenstein reader Kevin sent us the above pics taken at the premiere of The Terminator TV series. Can you find 3 awesome things in them? (If you think it’s too easy, we’ve... Read More

Unilever’s “shuffle pops” sighted

Gizmodo has managed to find pictures of the legendary “Brazilian iPod shuffle popsicle“, long thought to be extinct until Unilever’s Kibon ice cream brand found 10,000 of the skittish creatures in some god-forsaken jungle, and decided to give them away as a promotion. Apparently, Apple had a hand in helping to certify the “Shuffle pop”‘s packaging would keep the iPod safe in store freezer conditions. While the packaging is clever, it does... Read More
